Inspired by Cycles of Illumination
This painting, exhibited in July and August 2024, invited the question:
How do you define the invisible forces around you?
Neighbors said…
“anxiety
desire
whatever makes us fear difference
whatever makes flowers turn toward the light”
“cancerous growth of capital vs. an ecology's search for health and balance”
“Invisible forces are defined by the ways we perceive them… like leaves rustling letting us see and define ‘wind.’ Is any force truly invisible? It has to be sensed to be noticed and named.
I’d say that the process of defining invisible forces is about noticing and questioning… it’s a process of investigation. Invisible/unknown things can often be detected through their edges… so it may be about feeling out where something’s edges are. It can be a systematic process of experimentation or a more intuitive feeling process.”
“Honestly, I believe in the Force. May the Force be with you.”
Clara McClenon’s response was randomly selected from this group, so she took home David’s piece! Clara is also an artist, and it was lovely that they hung out and talked shop for a while!
