Nurturing 1-4
His paper sculptures, installed in the gallery in September-October 2024, invited the question:
Where do you feel nurtured?
What do you nurture in turn?
Here’s how our neighbors responded:
“I feel nurtured when people notice me and can unexpectedly read my nuances like a book. I always try to build strong relationships with others, and try to show up with my best thoughts and actions.”
“I feel nurtured at home (an apartment just down the street from here). I nurture the home, in turn. The footprint of the apartment hasn't changed over the 8 years my husband and I have lived here, but its interior has changed and shifted a lot. Rearranging, cleaning (again and again). hanging art, painting walls, reimagining. Thinking about it now, I see that a part of nurturing is allowing change. We've changed the interior of our home as we've changed. It's loving.”
“I feel nurtured when I care for our daughter (a toddler). As a man, I feel like some tender part of me was just waiting to become a dad so it could come out and love another being without reservation or embarrassment. Loving her is healing for me.”
“I recently started taking boxing lessons to work out some old trauma. I feel so nurtured when my trainer wraps my hands: she takes her time, and it's so tender—and empowering. Being nurtured in this way helps me step into healthy power, and it helps me be more tender toward myself and others in situations where I feel stressed or at risk.”
